| Description | Based on the graphic novel by Heo Young Man, 2008 South Korean drama "Gourmet" chronicles the happenings behind the scenes of renowned traditional Korean restaurant Woo Nam Jung. The story centers on the rivalry between brothers Lee Sung Chan (Kim Rae Won of "Attic Cat", "What Planet Are You From?") and Oh Bong Joo (Kwon Oh Joong of "The Secret Lovers"). As South Korea's 2008 summer smash hit, "Gourmet" was heralded for its high production value, the cost of which exceeded $10,000,000. It drew impressive comparisons with the globally acclaimed historical drama "Jewel in the Palace", which also focused on traditional Korean cuisine, albeit during the Joseon Dynasty while "Gourmet" takes place in modern day Korea. Also part of the stellar Kim So Yeon of "IRIS" and "Prosecutor Princess" and Nam Sang Mi of "My Sweet Spy". This 24-episode series delivers an unusually balanced mix of witty comedy and substantial drama as it follows Woo Nam Jung's fall and rise and the stories of the people whose lives weave through and around it. Kim Rae Won's charming wit makes for an even more compelling watch as the series' fallen hero who must redeem his rightful place in the kitchen. |
